Reason and Ethics in the Age of Insanity

Hello all,

I wanted to inform everyone (if anyone ever stumbles across this) about my sister's blog. It's a mostly political (rant) blog about many of the current issues. She has some stuff about Obama, the bailout, and some money management stuff (I think) So check it out!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals? More like People for the Unethical Treatment of People! Part 1

As I was surfing the Internet today, I came across a suggested video on YouTube. It was a segment from Penn and Teller's old HBO show so aptly titled "Bull****". (First, the stars are put there by me, it's HBO, they can say whatever they want. Second, I am no advocate of profanity, but I do hate me some PETA.)

Now, BS is P&T's (Ya see what I did there haha) way of exposing ridiculous practices, organizations, and industries in today's society. They've gotten hippies to sign a petition against the use of water, for example, and they filled plastic bottles of fake expensive water brands with hose water in L.A., and people said they could taste the difference, one man even said it was way better than L.A. county water (I had to chuckle at that). This was the the first episode that I saw, however, that dealt with an organization.

By the way, if you want to see the video, here it is, but be warned there is plenty of offensive language. I'll summarize the main points for those who disagree with such language.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is an "Animal Rights Group". They're the people that throw red paint on fur coats at red carpets and fashion shows, and parade around animal shelters, harassing employees and people.

First off, what is ethical? What one person considers to be ethical, another person may disagree with. What one considers to be ethical varies from person to person; it is a matter of one's personal beliefs, and what is acceptable in society. There is no set in stone, concrete definition of what and what is not ethical. So when they say they are people for the ethical treatment of animals, I could very well say the same about myself. I love animals, but to me, cows were domesticated for meat and milk, as were chickens for eggs and..... chicken. That, to me, is their purpose, the reason why god put them on this earth, to sustain humans, and other animals.
However, I completely disagree with PETA's point of view. They want what they call "total animal liberation", which I'll return to later.

I the first few minutes of the video, you see people on the street in front of a Los Angeles animal shelter protesting, and waving signs streak with such mindless rhetoric as "There is murder in YOUR neighborhood today" and shouting "How many animals are going to be murdered today?" I find these signs, and musings quite ironic, as the shelter they were at was a no-kill shelter (I believe), and rescues over 60,000 animals a year.
Now, PETA, in 2002 took in 2, 103 dogs and cats, very kind of them, right? Well, what PETA doesn't want you to know, is that in 2002, 1,325 of those animals "rescued" by PETA were euthanized at PETA headquarters. Did that register? Peta killed almost 2/3 of the animals they rescued. The equation in the video goes like this:

"Rescued" by PETA: 2103
Killed by PETA: 1,325
Survived Peta: 778

So, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals kills animals themselves? That's right, and they even spent $10,000 of supporters money on a walk-in freezer to store the bodies.

Ingrid Newkirk, the president and founder of PETA, said in a speech that slavery was not gone from America, or the world in general. She said that today, animals are the worlds slaves. Slaves? No, when slavery existed in America, the slaves were unfortunate African Americans who's rights were not respected. They had cognitive thoughts, and an intelligent thought process. Most animals don't have intelligent thought, animals have instincts. They don't know right from wrong, or have speech. Animals are not slaves.

Another atrocity of PETA is equating domesticated animals, to victims of the Holocaust. WHAT!? They are saying that animals in in livestock farms are treated no different than the Nazi's treated Jews. The belief that what happens to chickens is no different than what happened to Jews just shows how much PETA loves animals and not humans, that is how they can so trivialize the holocaust.

The PETA most people don't see is the PETA that opposes fishing, circuses, dog shows, horseback riding and zoos. They even speak out against the use of service animals by the blind! If they had there way, There would be no Kentucky fried chicken, or Kentucky derby. They would even get rid of pets. That's right, no pets allowed.

More PETA insanity to come in Part 2.
